When your account is first established and your domain registration is still being processed, you have to use an address number to get into your account. This number is called an IP number. You received the IP number in your original Welcome Letter. It should look something like 65.108.51.18. Type your IP number into your browser as if it were a domain name to get to your site. Until you upload your web pages, you will see the default Under Construction page created by our server. You must delete or overwrite this page before your pages will be seen! |

|
The
Control Panel
is the best place to get started with your new service. Here you'll be
able to change your password, set up e-mail boxes, view your billing
history and much more.
To log into your Control Panel you can use your IP number (described above) or your domain name (if the registration is complete) followed by "/menu". So if your IP is 65.108.51.18 you would type in http://65.108.51.18/menu (or use login at the top of this page). You'll then be prompted to
provide your user name and password which were in your welcome letter.
Enter those and you're there! The next thing you should do is set up
your e-mail accounts. |

Now that you can get into your
account via the
Control Panel
you can use the file manager tool to poke around a bit. Do not delete
or change any of the files that exist on your account unless you
created them (with the exception of our under construction page -
index.html). Deleting files could require us to rebuild your which
can take some time and you may lose some data. It is a good idea to make get familiar with the current file structure on the server. File/Directory Name - Description:
The most important folder is the 'www' folder. This is where you put your web page files so they can be seen on the internet. Reminder: Your home page should be named index.html or index.htm. |

|
The first thing you'll need
to get your site from your computer to the server is a program that can
transfer or publish your site. Most web design programs have this ability
built into them. In addition to this, there's a method called File
Transfer Protocol (FTP) that makes transferring files a snap. If you've
never heard of FTP, all you need to know is that it moves files from your
computer to the server typically by simply dragging the files from one
window into another. Or, you can upload files from your hard drive by
using the file manager. The two keys
to remember when uploading your files is that your home page should be
named index.html and the server only serves files in the www
directory to the web. Other directories serve a different purpose. If your
site doesn't show up on the net immediately after uploading, the first
thing to check is that your files are in the right place. |
|
|
E-mail boxes
are created using the Mail Manager tool,
which is in your control panel.
The next step is to review the options that come with the new e-mail box and how to setup e-mail clients such as Outlook Express. If you're familiar with setting up email
clients then you'll need to know that your POP server name is: "mail.yourdomain.com"
.
You should use your ISP's SMTP server.

|
When you first open an
account, the server assigns you your password. Often these are not easy to
remember and so you will probably want to change your password to something
else. We still recommend using numbers, letters,
and punctuation since security is important.
To change your password, go to your
Control Panel
(www.domain.com/menu) and type in your current user name and password.
Then click on the intuitively named "Change Password" icon to change your
password. Follow the instructions and in about 10 minutes your password
will work for logging into your account. Note: This same new password
applies when you FTP in as well. |
|
|
If you had an existing domain when you signed up for hosting,
either you or Khimaira will need to modify your DNS (nameserver)
information.
Please use the Transfer Page to provide your information to us if you had an existing domain. |
